Above all else, teachers are experts, at least in students eyes.  To be the best expert a teacher must first provide instruction that helps develop students reading skills to help them make sense of the text and readings used.  In order for this to happen, teachers need to know the strategies/skills themselves as well as how to develop instruction to promote growth in reading comprehension.  This website addresses the components of developing good instruction, the strategies/skills to enhance comprehension, and the assessment of comprehension instruction.  Since every student and every person is different, the picture to the right is a link to reading comprehension and strategy books that can be found at Barnes and Noble. 

This is my very first website.  I have developed and published this as a project for my Literacy 444 class.  I hope this site is helpful.

I have added a further reading section to suggest some books to learn more about various reading strategies and incorporating them  into the classroom.(7-4-02)
